First, you need a basic drawing as well as “ a crop” of the photo to invite people to focus on the face and give depth to the gaze / look in the portrait. I use a 2B graphite pencil, soft enough to retrace the character features without scratching the paper (you might need to erase some lines). If I use an inferior calibre for the pencil (2B) I’ll scratch the paper for sure ! |
